Job Responsibilities


Pharmaceutical Research requires gathering, organizing, sharing and analyzing more and more data. 

Within a team accountable for the whole Research IT systems, composed of software developers and business analysts, the Research Data Management Expert will play a key role in building a data architecture framework to enable integration and data flows across transactional and analytical applications and systems. 


The Research Data Management Expert responsibilities are two-fold: 

  • Design, implement and operate a common data architecture applicable to research systems.  Data architecture includes a semantic or master data framework, a data repository (data warehousing, data lakes), as well as exchange tools and formats 
  • Integrate and operate third-party tools to automate research processes 

More specifically, the Research Data Management Expert is responsible for the design, resourcing, implementation and operation of the following initiatives: 

  • Research Data governance 
    • Attend and organise workshops for clarifying data ownership, data quality, roles and governance 
    • Clarify business definitions of data entities, identify overlaps and resolution path 
    • Elaborate Research master data  
  • Research Datawarehouse 
    • Architect, design and implement a Datawarehouse solution, and related data sourcing (ETL) 
    • Data exchange mechanisms primarily between Research and Preclinical systems, but also interact with possibly other business areas, such as Clinical and Corporate systems 
  • Research systems integration 
    • Contribute to define the Research system development and technology framework and assist in the elaboration of a technical roadmap 
    • Manage the deployment of third-party process automation tools such as Electronic Lab Journal 
    • Planning and implementation of data transformation to research standard format (e.g. SEND)  


Candidate Requirements


  • University degree in Science, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field
  • 10 years of experience in Business Intelligence Data Management,  and System Integration experience  
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry, focusing on research processes and systems 
  • Strong knowledge of data governance principles: identify roles, responsibilities, processes in the management of master data (MDM), data quality, data architecture, data stewardship 
  • Ability to communicate pro-actively with business stakeholders, identify needs, analyse the current processes, propose improvements, manage resources in the design and implementation of system integrations  
  • Experience with operating solutions in production - interact with a community of users, manage expectations, and SLAs 
  • Project management skills and ability to manage deadlines, resources, external vendors, contractors, etc. 
  • Data Warehouse architecture and design expertise (strong knowledge of DWH concepts, star schemas, ETL techniques, performance issues), and implementation experience (preferably in pharmaceutical research) 
  • Standard relational database (Oracle, MySQL, MariaDB, MSSQL) 
  • Good knowledge of lab automation technology (ELN, LIMS) 
  • Big Data technologies (Data Lake - NoSQL, Hadoop) knowledge is a plus 
  • Familiarity with Research Data exchange Formats (SEND, AniML) 
  • Knowledge of SAS (Statistical software) is an advantage 
  • Good knowledge of the pharmaceutical research processes and terminologies 
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken)
