Job Responsibilities:


For our CNS Biology group, we are seeking a Senior Scientist. In the dual roles of lab head and project co-leader, you will drive drug discovery projects at stages from inception to clinical trials as a key member of integrated multi-disciplinary project teams. You will work in a matrix environment where initiative, close teamwork and influencing others is required.


The successful candidate will:


  • Develop cell and molecular tools, employing a wide range of assay technologies and state of the art methodologies
  • Provide project teams with structure-activity relationship data
  • Design and conduct mechanism-of-action and molecular pharmacological studies
  • Establish in vitro disease models
  • Drive the exploration of novel drug discovery targets in close collaboration with other Idorsia scientists
  • Develop project strategies, including new project proposals
  • Work closely with pharmacology, chemistry, DMPK and translational science groups
  • In cooperation with other team members, create clear project plans and resource estimates, update management on project progress
  • Manage scientific associates by setting goals and providing coaching, feedback and support
  • Write internal reports
  • Establish and manage external collaborations with contract research organizations
  • Display outstanding teamwork and communication skill


Candidate Requirements:


  • PhD in neuroscience.
  • Dynamic scientist with a proven track record of innovation and building strong collaborative working relationships.
  • At least 5-7 years research experience since PhD graduation, experience in the pharma industry is a strong advantage.
  • Project leadership experience is a strong advantage.
  • Good understanding of the molecular biology and pharmacological properties of receptors and ion channels.
  • Expertise in ion channel assays would be an advantage.
  • Broad experience in assay development, mechanism-of-action studies and disease modeling.
  • Experience in working with CNS primary cell cultures.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Ability to facilitate teamwork and strong cross-functional working relationships.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with competing priorities.
  • Skilled at analytical thinking, combined with a solution-orientated mindset.
  • Strong scientific writing and presentation skills.
  • Fluency in English, additional knowledge of German or French is an advantage.
