In this role you will join the Chemical Development & Commerical Manufacturing department that drives the drug development portfolio of Idorsia. You will work in a matrix environment where initiative, leadership, close teamwork and excellent communication are required.

Job Responsibilities

  • Leading a motivated team of Lab Technicians and/or Research Associates 
  • Developing synthetic routes that are fit for the production of the first multi-kg amounts of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API)
  • Optimizing chemical processes in terms of robustness, safety, cost, efficiency and green metrics
  • Producing API’s on kilogram scale (in 30 L reactor) to support preclinical development
  • Drafting process protocols or batch records for the multi-kg non-GMP production
  • Summarizing process knowledge in technical transfer documents as basis for the outsourced GMP production 
  • Technical assistance of outsourced production campaigns as lead chemist by participating in telephone conferences and supplier visits, as well as performing troubleshooting and synthesis of impurities in the laboratory. 
  • Designing and developing second-generation routes for Idorsia drug candidates to lower the cost of goods and to secure freedom to operate 
  • Drafting of process patents and publishing manuscripts in renowned journals 
  • Representing Chemistry Process R&D in drug discovery and CMC teams

 

Candidate’s Requirements

  • PhD in synthetic organic chemistry 
  • PostDoc or industrial experience 
  • Practical experience within industrial Process R&D and scale-up is beneficial, but not a must.
  • Excellent skills in synthetic organic chemistry including reaction optimizations, asymmetric syntheses, reaction monitoring and analysis (including online monitoring), and work-up and isolation techniques 
  • High interest in new organic chemistry technologies (Photoredox catalysis, electrochemistry etc.)
  • Experience in process safety (DSC, RC1, risk assessment) is beneficial, but not a must.
  • Good communication skills 
  • Open-minded and positive personality. 
  • Ability and desire to work within close-knit and empowered teams
  • Ability to meet stringent timelines and focusing on goals, whilst not compromising process safety
  • Fluent in English, both written and oral, and good knowledge of German
