Purpose of Role


The Head of Global Pricing will lead the development and enable the realization of global pricing strategies and related policies for pipeline and in-market products to maximize the value of Idorsia portfolio and pipeline. 
The leader will build and develop the Department including the required capabilities and the right mindset to drive collaboration, innovation, and impact to realize the Idorsia vision. 
The leader will also provide functional leadership to the Regional and Local Pricing and will act as an advisor for Idorsia Senior Management. This role has a major impact on the company’s future commercial results and on the development of pipeline products.


Scope

The role will cover the following aspects:

  • creation ex nihilo of the Idorsia’s Global Pricing function
  • pricing analyses, including business case analyses for pipeline assets and reference pricing and arbitrage analyses for future in-market assets and development of the Global pricing strategies for the entire Idorsia’s pipeline
  • support the pricing strategy implementation at the key market level, including market negotiation training 
  • development and implementation of the Global Pricing governance, including pricing strategies evolution and management e.g. price change requests
  • extended cross functional exchange and collaboration with a series of stakeholders including but not limited to Global Value & Access Strategy leads, Global Insights & Analytics, HEOR, and Global Commercial Operations
  • possession and sharing of significant technical pricing knowledge (including solid understanding of the current and emerging Global pricing environment and dynamics, across a wide variety of Therapeutic Areas and geographies) to become the internal go-to person for pricing matters


Responsibilities

  • Create the vision for and establish a leading-edge Global Pricing function that involves the establishment of state-of-the art pricing analytics capabilities
  • Act as thought partner for the Head of Global Value & Access and the Commercial Leadership Team on pricing strategies and reimbursement models
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure relevant insights obtained to formulate Pricing Strategy

- Track changes in payer policies impacting pricing and reimbursement; communicate updates to Commercial Operations in a timely manner

- Understand the legal contractual frameworks when contracting with individual hospitals and other entities, where applicable to role

- Input into Corporate policy positions affecting pricing and patient access programs

  • Drive Global Pricing strategies for early and late pipeline assets - from strategic guidance draft development, input from Regions and Countries gathering to final approval by Sr Leadership
  • Oversee the execution of Pricing strategy, ensuring consistent and aligned Regional implementation in collaboration with affiliates

- Train and prepare affiliates to effectively interact in price negotiations (national, regional, and local levels as applicable to affiliate and role) 

- Identify organizational gaps in negotiations skills and effectiveness

  • Develop and implement Global Pricing Governance that is fit-for-purpose, drives accountability and enables rapid decision making and learning cycles, incl. up-to-date corresponding documentation

- Implement and ensure state-of-the-art Global Pricing management system and consistent utilization thereof

  • Display thought-leadership and actively engage with relevant internal and external stakeholders to enhance value recognition and reward for our portfolio/pipeline. Builds organizational knowledge and sensitivity around pricing considerations and implications for regional and affiliate pricing strategies
  • Effectively navigate matrix to develop and maintain positive relationships with other functional areas and Global Value & Access colleagues to drive alignment, consistency where appropriate, best practice sharing, and flawless implementation of all Value & Access activities.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 12 years’ experience in the bio-pharma industry with at least 7 years in Market Access/Pricing. People management experience is a plus. Multidisciplinary experience working in a variety of functions within and beyond Access and/or in the Public sector is also an advantage.
  • Expert-knowledge and experience in the biopharmaceutical industry (or strategic consulting), including expertise in key pricing and reimbursement systems worldwide and the role of HTA/health outcomes. Practical experience in managing price negotiations with public and/or private payers and other government officials is a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of the pharmaceutical sector, its current and future global trends, incl. health policy.
  • Ability to manage complexity, to think creatively and strategically beyond the immediate future, and demonstrate analytical (quantitative and qualitative), interpretative problem-solving skills.
  • Display outstanding stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels and to position ideas and manage expectations of various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to synthesize, explain and present analytics and data as well as complex solutions to pricing problem statements to Senior Management.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to influence key decision making across diverse functional areas.
  • Strong desire to learn, grow and contribute, leveraging a broad network of Pricing colleagues and counterparts globally.
  • BS degree or higher in life sciences or quantitative domain; MBA preferred.
  • English fluency required; working knowledge of other language(s) is an advantage.
