For the Idorsia Chemistry Drug Discovery team, we are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Research Technician on a permanent basis. In this role, you will be at the core of Idorsia’s purpose to discover, develop and commercialize innovative medicines to help more patients.


Job Responsibilities


  • Perform multi-step chemical syntheses on a laboratory scale (mg to multi g) according to known procedures
  • Monitor reaction progress using TLC, LC-MS, etc.
  • Interpret reaction monitoring data and take appropriate action
  • Purify reaction products using standard techniques e.g. (automated) column chromatography, preparative HPLC, crystallization or distillation
  • Perform compound analysis by LC-MS, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy, etc.
  • Conduct multiple activities in parallel
  • Interact closely with other team members and colleagues, contributing to new proposals and ideas
  • Share knowledge with other team members and colleagues while being open to suggestions and experimentation for improvement, so to contribute to the Idorsia learning environment 
  • Record accurately work performed and results in electronic laboratory journals and databases
  • Perform general lab duties and adhere to all company safety and compliance requirements


Candidate’s Requirements


  • Apprenticeship as a laboratory technician or equivalent education specialized in organic synthesis
  • Hands-on experience in preparative organic synthesis to carry out reactions on a laboratory scale
  • Familiar with state-of-the-art methods to purify and characterize organic compounds e.g. (automated) column chromatography, HPLC, LC-MS, 1D and 2D NMR, GC, etc.
  • Flexibility, curiosity, and willingness to learn new skills and techniques
  • Ability to critically interpret results
  • Ability to plan and accurately document practical work
  • Good communication and team-working skills
  • English working proficiency
  • Basic computer skills and a technical and instrumentation flair
  • Well-organized and self-driven personality committed to high quality
  • Problem-solving and hands-on attitude and an ability to work efficiently and independently
