We are offering an exciting Scientific Associate position in Idorsia’s CNS Biology group to support our drug discovery programs. The role includes developing cellular model systems for the study of neurological diseases, assays for high-throughput drug screening, as well as evaluating novel drug target candidates. We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with an interest in drug discovery and neuroscience research.   

 

Job Responsibilities

 

With a significant degree of self-responsibility, the successful candidate will: 

 

  • Engineer cell lines, perform cell-based and biochemical assays for the study of cellular and molecular disease mechanisms and drug action 
  • Develop, implement, and execute in vitro target- and disease-relevant assay systems required for the characterization of small molecules (including in human stem cell derived neuronal and glial cell types)
  • Execute lab experiments according to established protocols, analyze data and document work in electronic lab notebooks
  • Present experimental results for discussion in the CNS Biology group
  • Share with lab colleagues in maintaining an efficient and safe work environment
  • Interact across labs in a multidisciplinary research environment
 
Candidate's Requirement
 

Master’s or equivalent degree in Cell biology, Molecular biology, Biotechnology or related field with at least two years relevant experience. Industry experience is a plus. PhD applications will not be considered.

 

Strong expertise in the following techniques: 

 

  • Common molecular biology and biochemistry techniques including DNA/RNA work, PCR, western blots, ELISA 
  • Mammalian cell culture manipulation of cell lines including passaging, transfection, antibiotic selection
  • Cell based assays for in vitro pharmacology using fluorescent and luminescent readouts 


Experience and interest in the following are a plus: 

 

  • Neuroscience research and drug discovery
  • FLIPR/FDSS 
  • Gene editing technologies (CRISPR) 
  • Human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) culture 
  • High content imaging analysis 

 

Personal skills:

 

  • Well-organized multitasker able to perform experiments in a precise and reliable manner
  • Scientifically curious, and eager to learn new skills and techniques
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English; Basic skills in French or German are a plus
  • Highly motivated team player, who thrives in an international and interdisciplinary environment
