In the Translational Biomarker Group our mission is to develop biomarkers to aid decision-making in clinical development. To complement our team, we are looking for an experienced laboratory head with interest in translating research concepts to clinical development. As a lab head, together with scientific associates, you will contribute to mechanistic studies, identify biomarkers, and develop, validate, and implement suitable assays to study biomarkers in preclinical and clinical studies. You will analyze, visualize, and report biomarker data from preclinical and clinical studies. You will ensure technical excellence in antibody-based biomarker assays (ligand binding and flow cytometry assays) and evolve the laboratory expertise.

As a member of the Translational Biomarker Group, you will contribute to ensure best practice in both biomarker research and the implementation of exploratory biomarkers in clinical development. With your scientific excellence and curiosity for novel approaches and technologies you will be essential for the success of our portfolio. Your proactive and positive mindset, and your excellent communication skills will make you a valuable colleague in the Translational Biomarker Group.


Job Responsibilities


  • Lead, manage and develop a team of scientific associates and ensure appropriate training to perform the required tasks.
  • Ensure laboratory activities are carried out according to industry standards and regulations relevant for biomarker analysis in human samples (biosafety, data protection rules, ethical standards, operating procedures)
  • Identify, develop, validate, and implement biomarker assays in preclinical models and clinical studies
  • Lead activities to ensure implementation of novel technologies to analyze biomarkers
  • Ensure communication with Biomarker Expert and Project Teams on objectives, progress, timelines, and results
  • Act as functional expert in the Translational Biomarker Matrix Team
  • Together with the Translational Biomarker Group colleagues, propose and implement experiments to elucidate the compound mechanism of action and identify and characterize novel biomarkers
  • Analyze and visualize result based on project needs (preferably using R)
  • Report results according to Idorsia procedures (e.g., biomarker report, bioanalytical analysis report, assay validation report)


Candidate’s Requirements 


  • PhD degree in biology, pharmaceutical sciences or equivalent
  • Minimally 3 years of pharmaceutical or biotech industry experience in biomarkers and /or diagnostics
  • Laboratory experience in flow cytometry and ligand binding assays
  • Experience in using R for data analysis is an asset
  • Publications demonstrating scientific excellence
  • Team player, at ease interacting in a multicultural environment
  • Excellent oral and written English
