Part of the Pathology team, within the business unit Preclinical Toxicology & Pathology, part of Drug Discovery – Pharmacological Sciences, the histology laboratory technician is the reference for necropsy and histology functions, for the whole Idorsia research and development, mainly pre-/non-clinical, but including clinical activities (e.g. biopsy from clinical trials for extended open label investigations outside the primary endpoints of the clinical trials).

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Knowledge of rodent anatomy 
  • Conduction of full necropsy in rodents (According to regulatory guidelines, t.i. approximately 40 organs/animal), in independence and supervised by pathologists
  • Recording macroscopic observations, organ weight, and sampling of tissues and fluids
  • Histology processing of tissue samples from internal and external rodent and non-rodent studies: trimming, dehydration, embedding, sectioning on microtome and cryostat, staining - including special, histochemical and immunohistochemical 
  • Supporting other teams for histology / necropsy processes 
  • Logistic (shipment and archiving) of internal and external, GLP and non-GLP, study material
  • Digitalization (brightfield and fluorescence scanners)
  • Compliance with Swiss animal welfare laws (Tierschutzgesetz)
  • Contributing to data evaluation (e.g organ weight and macroscopic findings)
  • Maintain laboratory organization, order supplies, keep equipment in working order
  • Documenting experiments in the electronic laboratory journals
  • Application of drug discovery software (open license or commercial)
  • Retrieve information from literature to optimize experimental methods under supervision
  • Competence in non-rodent necropsies (nice to have)
  • Clinical pathology basic knowledge  (nice to have)
  • Willingness to operate Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) histology (non-destructive technology), closely collaborating with technology experts (nice to have)
  • Willingness to operate confocal microscopy, collaborating with other labs (nice to have)


Candidate’s Requirements 

 

  • Minimum 5-year experience as histology and necropsy technician
  • Minimum degree as biomedical technician such as BTA, MTA, VMTA (e.g.: biologisch/medizinisch/veterinär-medizinisch technische Assistant/-in) or equivalent 
  • LTK (Labortierkunde) module 1 or equivalent (for collaboration during in-vivo studies in rodents)
  • Language: English
  • Independent, self-organized, proactive, and problem-solving attitude
  • Excellent organization, documentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Team player, adaptable, and flexible
  • Flexibility for sporadic (once a year) travels to affiliates or contractors abroad (nice to have)
