Job Profile

 

Responsibilities of the Director Legal & Compliance Central Europe (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, BeNeLux) (m/f/d) include:

 

  • Serve as a strategic legal and compliance advisor to the Leadership Teams as well as to the teams across all levels of the organization, providing commercially focused legal counsel that enables sustainable growth while effectively managing legal, regulatory and reputational risk
  • Partner with leaders at all levels of the organization to proactively identify opportunities and risks, support strategic initiatives, and enable sound business decisions through practical and solution oriented legal advice
  • Develop, implement and operationally run the regional legal, compliance and governance strategy including the hands-on review of engagements with higher risk groups such as Health Care Professionals, Government Officials as well as Patient Organizations
  • Oversee the legal review of promotional, medical and scientific material where Legal and Compliance input is required, ensuring appropriate governance and regulatory compliance
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the legal and compliance function
  • Manage external legal counsel, establish effective partnerships, controlling external spending, and ensuring the delivery of high- quality, commercially focused legal services.
  • Lead enterprise legal and compliance risk assessments, ensuring appropriate mitigation strategies are implemented and monitored
  • Promote a culture of ethics, integrity and accountability throughout the organization through leadership, communication and governance
  • Run and/or oversee investigations, corrective actions and remediation plans relating to legal and compliance matters
  • Report significant legal and compliance risks, trends and mitigation strategies to the Leadership Teams and the VP, Head of Legal and Compliance EU & International

 

Requirements

 

Education

  • Law degree from a recognized university – with a focus on German, Swiss and/or Austrian law
  • Compliance certificate and/or strong experience in Compliance

Job Experience

  • Minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in the life science industry or law firm advising pharmaceutical, biotechnology or medical device businesses
  • Demonstrated expertise in German, Swiss or Austrian legal systems, with a strong understanding of the broader European regulatory environment
  • Strong experience in designing, implementing and overseeing enterprise Compliance and governance frameworks

Required Skill Set

  • Proven strategic leadership with the ability to influence executive decision making and act as a trusted advisor to a Leadership team as well as across all operational levels of an organization
  • Deep understanding of the legal, regulatory, and compliance landscape governing the pharmaceutical and life science industry across the region
  • Strong experience in commercial law, corporate governance, anti-bribery and anti-corruption, data privacy, competition law and enterprise risk management.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex matters into practical business recommendations.
  • High degree of integrity and resilience, with the ability to lead confidently in a dynamic and highly regulated industry
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong focus on innovation, continuous improvement and delivering business value
  • Results – oriented leader with intellectual curiosity and a proactive solution-oriented approach
  • Fluent in German and English
