General Manager Canada

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

The General Manager will continue building and will lead Idorsia’s local presence in Canada, lead and execute local pricing and market access activities, and develop broader local plans for world-class launches and ongoing success. This role holds responsibility for operations across Canada, including market entry and first launch of products, growing the business, full P&L and managing the commercial organization in Canada.

Further the General Manager will ensure visibility of the company and products including close contact to KOLs, Authorities, Patent advocacy and the Life Sciences business environment in Canada.  The position holder will be expected to develop and execute strategic and operational plan(s) for market entry(ies) in Canada and supervise all aspects of legal, compliance and quality issues.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Representing Idorsia in Canada.
  • The role includes leadership responsibility for budgeting, marketing, sales forecasting, market research, market access, pricing and reimbursement, digital marketing, patient focused programs, multi-channel communication and promotion. 
  • As products enter registration and approval, participate in price negotiations with HMOs, insurance companies and the local governments across Canada.
  • Develop, and execute local pricing and market access (P&MA) strategies that are consistent with European P&MA strategy.
  • Build the reputation and branding of Idorsia in Canada, including a network of KOLs, Publishing strategy, and Patient communities.
  • Establish strong working relationships with external bodies as needed (Payors, Policy makers, Patient Associations, KOLs, etc.), especially within the context of the approval and reimbursement process.
  • Monitors the relevant competitive landscape, regulatory policy environment and other market relevant trends and understands key healthcare trends.
  • Builds and maintains long-term relationships throughout the organization and with external counterparts.
  • Constantly looks for ways to improve the organization and the overall approach to the Canadian market and leads the implementation of improvements.
  • Create and drive a high-performing, dynamic culture by fostering innovation, customer-focus, personal accountability, business acumen and a commitment to success.
  • Partner closely with HR to define and deploy the people strategy for the affiliate and create a positive and inspiring work environment.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant legal, regulatory, and healthcare compliance requirements, corporate policies, and procedures, and drive this culture in the local organization.
  • Ensure that the quality management system is adequately implemented and maintained by monitoring key quality indicators and by actively participating in quality management reviews. Provide input to improvements of the quality management system by defining CAPAs, if required, and by ensuring CAPAs are closed in a timely manner. Ensure that there are sufficient competent personnel involved in wholesale distribution.
  • Responsible for maintaining an adequate system of internal control and communicating the expectations and duties of staff as part of a control environment.
  • Periodically assess risks and the level of internal control required to protect company assets and records related to those risks.
  • Foster development of compliance awareness and promote cross-functional communications.
  • Oversee and ensure the timely implementation of suitable remediation measures regarding reported audit findings.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Specifically, she/he will possess the following:

  • Master’s degree in life sciences, business, or economics; MBA preferred.
  • Expert knowledge and experience in the biopharmaceutical industry in a General Management or Business Unit leadership role with +15 years of experience. Experience with GPs is key. 
  • Experienced and credible commercial leader who will thrive within a growing, entrepreneurial, high-performing culture, and who will be building a lean but effective organization in Canada as a part of the global Idorsia Group.
  • Experience of international organizations and multicultural environment
  • A successful track record overseeing product launches.
  • Ideally with experience from the Neuroscience sector,
  • Deep understanding of the Canadian market forces, including local reimbursement systems, payors, and key opinion leader landscape as well as market access requirements.
  • With experience from building a business, in developing and executing market access and reimbursement strategies. A thorough understanding of the market access and reimbursement environment and processes in Canada.
  • In depth knowledge of the pharmaceutical sector, its trends, developments, challenges, players, portfolios etc.
  • Strong people management skills, with a positive, can-do and hands-on attitude. 
  • Demonstrated influencing, advisory and business partner skills and a track record working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Fluency in French and English.
