The Associate Director, Medical Communications is a fully integrated strategic partner within the US Medical Affairs Team  that will collaborate with other internal stakeholders (R&D, Clinical Development, Medical Information) to ensure that scientific and medical strategies within publications and medical communications are aligned between Global and the US affiliate. 


As part of this role, the individual will create scientific materials, organizing training, supporting medical education and grants, and coordinating key scientific conference activities in the US.


Candidates for this role must live within a commutable driving distance to Radnor, PA.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Develop scientific content that will serve as the basis for field medical materials and advisory boards
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders within Medical Affairs and R&D to lead the medical communication strategy activities at key medical congresses, including the medical booth development, other booth materials, meeting summaries to internal audiences, and post-meeting slide reviews; ensure all materials undergo appropriate medical affairs review
  • Coordinate key scientific conference activities in the US, including publications, symposia, advisory boards, sponsorship and booth activity
  • Coordinate and organize scientific training needs for US Medical Affairs, including the field medical team
  • Accountable for working globally with the Medical Information and Publications team in aligning the strategy for scientific communications and collaborating to develop and execute on a comprehensive communication plan
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external scientific and medical experts to development a comprehensive, strategically aligned, and evolving content development plan to be executed by the team
  • Build relationships with key internal cross-functional partners to coordinate scientific communication strategies and tactics




  • Master’s degree in a scientific field with a minimum of 5 years of technical/medical writing experience within the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry required.
  • PhD, PharmD preferred (will consider education in lieu of experience)
  • Medical Affairs experience preferred
  • Experience in neuroscience and/or sleep disorders is highly preferred
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Experience creating content for peer-reviewed publications, scientific/medical advisory boards, and medical education/communications
  • Experience collaborating with field-based medical teams to develop scientific resources including slides
  • Experience creating medical content for events, conferences Idorsia will attend
  • Ability to manage timelines, multiple priorities under time constraints & vendor relationships
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional environment and a global/local culture
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to compile and disseminate information to others in a cohesive fashion to assure clear understanding of the project status and direction
  • Thinks globally and understands the big picture (e.g. competitor activities, potential implications and consequences of own activities and decisions)
  • Able to travel as required to fulfil responsibilities and tasks – approximately 10% of the time
