The Director, Compensation & Benefits US is responsible for the design, implementation and ongoing evaluation of US compensation and benefit programs in alignment with Idorsia’s global compensation and benefits philosophy and framework.  The successful candidate will work with senior management, global total rewards, and talent acquisition to ensure that compensation and benefits programs support the organization’s business objectives and meet all legal requirements, as well as address the demands of the external market.


Role & Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and modify existing compensation and benefits programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Benchmark, develop, and implement new compensation and benefits programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure all programs, policies, and procedures comply with current legislation, including pay equity laws. 
  • Liaise with Idorsia’s broker of record and other third parties to negotiate benefit plans and resolve benefit-related issues.
  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition to ensure a market competitive strategy is delivered through Compensation and Benefits.
  • Manage the company’s 401(k) savings plan.  Chair the plan’s Administrative Committee meetings.
  • Partner with the Global HR Total Rewards team based in Basel, Switzerland in assessing, designing, and applying compensation activities related to performance management and promotion cycles.
  • Accountable for daily operations related to compensation and benefits activities.
  • Prepare budgets, reports, and presentations.
  • Identify trends and implement new practices to attract and retain colleagues.
  • Gather applicable data and contribute to benchmarking studies to which Idorsia regularly contributes. 
  • Support functions in the development of compliant job descriptions.  Conduct job leveling analysis.



  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 10 years of experience as a Compensation and Benefits Manager or in a related role, with at least some of experience having been in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Relevant certifications, such as a CEBS or SHRM certification, preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of benefits and compensation programs, policies, procedures, and applicable legislation.
  • Excellent understanding of job evaluation and job analysis systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of building compensation packages and incentive programs for various functions.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Hands-on experience with HRIS and payroll software.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to quickly grasp and understand organizational culture and dynamics.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong people and project management skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Track record of innovative thinking and ability to be pragmatic in developing solutions.
